Welcome
Welcome to Spirit Catholic Radio
Welcome to Spirit Catholic Radio, bringing Christ to people and people to Christ! We’re the area's only Catholic radio station heard across most of Nebraska, western Iowa, and other parts of the Midwest. Spirit Catholic Radio streams online at www.spiritcatholicradio.com and can be heard on the radio at 102.7 FM in Omaha and Lincoln, Nebraska, 91.5 FM in central Nebraska, 88.3 FM in northeast Nebraska and 90.1 FM in North Platte, Nebraska.
How did Spirit Catholic Radio get on the air?
In the early '90s, several different groups of people began to think about and plan for Catholic radio in Omaha. Following a Christians Encounter Christ (CEC) retreat, a prayerfully-inspired group took the task to heart, and after five years of more prayer, negotiations and the generosity of a few local Catholic families, Catholic radio - KVSS hit the airwaves in 1999 on a 500-watt signal. After broadcasting for ten years, VSS partnered with Kolbe Media, a group of people committed to Catholic radio in Lincoln, Neb. On January 29, 2009, Spirit Catholic Radio purchased a new 50,000-watt signal on 102.7 FM and expanded its reach to Omaha and Lincoln, and over 1 million potential listeners throughout eastern Nebraska and western Iowa.
The Holy Spirit wasn't content with just this station and a translator signal in Norfolk, Neb. An opportunity arose in April 2009 to purchase a signal in Grand Island, Neb. Spirit 91.5 FM began broadcasting December 23 after an intense fundraising effort by the people in Grand Island and the help of many prayers. The signal was further expanded to reach Hastings and Kearney just a year later. Spirit 88.3FM followed at 100,000 watts covering northeast Nebraska and the small 250 translator in Norfolk was no longer needed. In July 2012, the network went on the air in North Platte, Neb., on Spirit 90.1 FM.
Almost from the beginning, the Spirit Catholic Radio Network has produced local programming and continues to develop local shows, features and broadcast special local events (including Catholic high school football and basketball games from around the coverage area).
Spirit Catholic Radio is 100 percent supported by listeners and businesses and is a 501(c)(3) non-profit. The board of directors (VSS Catholic Communications, Inc.) is made up of 14 non-paid individuals with a deep love of the faith. This radio ministry depends upon the guidance of the Holy Spirit, God's gift of grace and the generosity of the faithful throughout eastern Nebraska and western Iowa to bring this work to complete realization. Please pray for this lay apostolate, and ask the Holy Spirit to inspire and guide your financial support of this missionary work of spreading the Gospel.
The Mission
VSS Catholic Communications, Inc., is dedicated to answering the call of the late Holy Father, Blessed John Paul II, for a New Evangelization.
